Re: A/c

Your recharging it wrong. There are a lot of things you need to know before you just dive into charging your ac system. Autozone or any other parts store ususally sell those stupid refill cans. They work, but you have to KNOW how to do it. The haynes manual or chiltons, will not tell you how. You need a FSM from honda.

When your filling up the ac, you need to have a hose on the a/c condensor so you can get the right amount of pressure into your system. You need to have the a/c on full blast. You need to hold your hand onto the A/C line coming out of your firewall, once that becomes cold and frosts over, you're system should be good.

Another thing is, if you had pressed the little nipple down to test if its empty, you just allowed air into your system. Now you need to take it to a shop so they can pump out all the air and re-fill again.

You need a leak check. If it works for 10 minutes then stops, more than likely you've got a bad leak. Is the compressor disengaging when the cold air stops?

Re: A/c

as for the ac turning on when you turn on the heat... just turn off that little AC button and it should shut it off

Re: A/c

Condenser is probably clogged up with bugs and cottonwood ****. Spray water through the radiator and condenser from the engine bay side to the front of the car to unclog it. Extra points if you go to the DIY car wash and use the pressure washer. A/C works by evaporating liquid refrigerant, if the hot gas can't condense into a cooler liquid and repeat the cycle, you're just sending gas through the evaporator and not cooling anything.

You also probably overcharged the damn thing, which can kill a compressor in a heartbeat by sending liquid through it. The trouble with those DIY charging bottles is that a) you don't know if there's a leak in the system, b) you can't vacuum the air out (guaranteed it's in there), c) you have no idea how much refrigerant is left in the system, d) you don't know how much you're putting in, e) the capacity of our cars is anywhere from 16 to 23 oz., those cans are usually 14 oz.

Jesus Finch, I sometimes forget the incredible wealth of knowledge you truly are.

To the op, good luck with the AC. I'd just have it professionally checked out, just to see if there in fact is a leak.

x2 on taking it to a shop ... it's cheaper to have them fill it up correctly than to replace the compressor ... i lost all the freon in my a/c system due to a leaky schrader valve ... lucky for me my friend owns his own a/c charging system ... it's going to be a HOT summer
