I'm planning on getting a brake flush in a couple of months. I noticed that my peddle has started to lose pressure recently. Juicebox00 has already topped off my brake fluid and that has temporarily restored the pressure but it has recently started to soften up again. I was wondering if I were to use Dot4 Valvoline Brake Fluid, would that prevent my rotors from warping? I'm not planning on doing any crazy driving, maybe occasionally mountains but I'm running on basic rotors and pads. I believe they're not oem but they're not high performance either. I wanna keep these rotors in good condition as much as possible. My friend's dad quoted me for $50 for a brake flush. Would that be considered a reasonable price?

ask a freind and do it urself. its a lil time consuming but yea. u need a freind to loosen it then u press the brake pedal all the way down for the fluid to come out. it should take 1-2hrs for all 4. the front left will only take 5-10mins, rears take the longest.

how would brake fluid cause rotors to warp......? :eh:

if u're losing brake fluid, check for leaks

Well, doesn't Dot4 have a higher boiling point meaning that the brakes are less likely to overheat? I didn't lose much fluid. Just a little bit so I'm not too worried about it. I wish our cars had slotted rotors though :(.

Edit: I just realized my brake fluid is BLACK. I guess I really do need a flush badly now.. I'm surprised my brakes still work perfectly fine.

Edit again: Screw the dealership. Just called me them and they quoted me $100+tax and they're not letting me use my own fluid. I guess I'll take it to my friend's dad shop and get it done for $50. I don't have the time to DIY as well and I don't have any proper equipment to do it :(.

higher boiling point does not mean that the brake fluid will make the pads or rotors get hotter :eh:

Your never home and I'm trying to keep my mileage on my car low :p. My parents do occasionally check my mileage and question as to where I go :(. Gotta save the mileage for other stuff ;). Plus, my friend's dad is willing to do it for around $50 so it's reasonable.

Roy, you got me a bit confused. Lemme try rephrasing it? Basically, I read that Dot4 boils at a much higher temperature than Dot3. Now, don't brakes overheat when fluid usually reaches their boiling point? I'm thinking that if I put Dot4, it's less likely to overheat because the new fluid can absorb much more heat than the typical Dot3. Or maybe I've just been driving on dirty fluid for so long, I think my brakes overheat....

2 cents on a method I prefer:

let all 4 corners drain at the same time via gravity. Keep adding new brake fluid into the reservoir until all 4 corners drain clear.

Takes about 20-30 minutes.

* $50 is too much. I would do it for a $20 spot.

Where rusted out cars don't exist
with doing a brake fluid drain and fill like this, is there any specific order of draining each corner? or, just do them one at a time in any order?

also, how much fluid is expected to be purchased?
