I changed my daughter's rear pads and rotors today on her '02 Accord sedan, we were hearing one of the wear indicators. This was my first time changing the brakes. Took off the driver's side first. Pretty amazed to see that there looked to be about 50% of the pad surface remaining compared to the new pads. Went ahead and took the passenger side off. Outer pad looked okay, about the same amount of wear as on the d/s, maybe a hint of uneven wear. The inner pad is where there's a problem. On the side where the wear indicator is, there is almost no pad remaining. It then slopes up to the other side of the pad, where the remaining pad thickness is about the same as the other three pads.

Could this be a problem with the caliper, or the caliper bracket? The slide pins on the bracket appeared to move freely.

Could you post a picture of the pad? I'm thinking maybe it was installed incorrectly and it just wore out on a slant.

i took some pics of the pad. I tried posting them, but the "manage attachments" section where you upload pics from your computer kept telling me my pics were too big, no matter how small I made them (which is frustrating, since other forums have the same method of posting a pic, and I've never had this trouble).

That is really weird, not only does it slope from top to bottom but it looks like it slopes from front to back as well.

I was just reading something in the Haynes manual for the Accord that I just remembered about 5 minutes ago that I have. It says for the rear brakes, before positioning the caliper over the brake pads, to align the slot in the caliper piston with the pin on the back of the inner pad. In all of the online tutorials for rear brake pad installs, I have never once seen this step. Is this necessary? And if this wasn't done when the brake pads were installed the last time (cuz if I remember correctly, I don't think they were by the guy that did them), could this account for the uneven wear? And if this step is necessary, I guess I'll be redoing my new brake job tomorrow.

If you look at the second pic, you can make out the pin I think they're talking about at the top of the pad.
