Ok so I took my car to a shop and had them take a look at the front and rears.

They told me, to my surprise that My brakes were fine they're all at 5/32ths

So I asked him why do I, at times, get the most horrid squeal.
He told me that its probably because the rotors are a little uneven and theres some 'glazing' on them.

Once about 18k miles ago? I was at a shop and a friend (mechanic) took the pads off the car and beveled the edges of the pads and they stopped squealing.

I just can't take the sound anymore its so loud and gives me a headache..
suggestions? opinions? should I look at having the rotors re surfaced?

I'm thinking the dealer I bought the car from had to install new pads before they sold the car and they went with a cheap pad, thats why they squeal?
Not sure.

It could possibly just be dirty on the rotor. Often times when I get out of the shop theres a squeel for the next couple days. It could just be a big chunk of dirt. Use a brake cleaner. Hopefully it hasn't caked onto the rotor already. If it has, you might need a resurface.

Cheap brake pads are notorious for this. There really isn't anything you can do to remedy it, other than beveling the edges or replacing them.

Its so loud that I honestly thought something was seriously wrong. lol

But see I've never heard it before because my parents have always leased.. so..
I'm kinda on my own when it comes to car maintenance .

So basically I just have to live with it then..
or go get the rotors turned and install something like wagner thermo quiets?

Also, if I brake really hard, I sometimes feel a bit of vibration near the end of the brake, if that means anything.

If you feel a vibration, your rotors are warped and either need to be resurfaced or replaced.

A lot of brakes will squeal no matter what you do. As for the vibrations, your rotors are either warped or unevenly worn. So resurfacing could work, if you can find someone to do it. It's cheaper for shops just to replace them...but its more expensive for you.

Ok well, I'm not sure what I'm going to do at this point.

I wish I had a friend who worked at a shop with a lathe lol

be like it is
brakes squeal for a couple reasons...the shims are dry or the pad/rotor surface is smooth (both are already mentioned, but i didn't want to start the post with a sentence fragment :lawl:)...

besides lubing the rear of the pads (not really necessary but why not), you want to lube the little thin metal shims on the top and bottom of the pads...that is, think about the brake as cardinal directions...the shims are on the way north and south of the caliper bracket. they might even fall out when you pull the pads.

another "might as well" is scuffing the pad surface with some 80-ish grit sandpaper to make the surface rough again.
