Hello everybody,

I've got a 2000 Honda Accord DX 5spd with 165,000 miles on it. Recently there has been a problem where the car won't start. I tracked the issue down to the starter since the engine was not turning over and the starter was receiving power from the battery and signal from the ignition system, so I removed it, took it to the local O'Reilly's to get it bench tested and to confirm that the starter was bad, and bought a remanufactured Denso starter from RockAuto (part #280-0187). I then replaced the starter, torqued the two bolts to spec (33 ft.lbs), and then when I tried starting the car I heard the starter spin but the engine itself was not spinning. I hooked up some jumper cables to another car to see if maybe the battery was the issue but it is not.

Any tips on what I should check out? I'd like to try everything out before I end up sending it to my mechanic and paying for labor. Will be needing this car for school soon and I'd rather fix it myself than take it to a shop.

Thank you.

Just to check the box, have you cleaned the batter terminal connections, checked your grounding points, & checked starting related fuses?

Yep, cleaned up the terminals, grounds are good, and checked the main fuses, relays, and checked that the starter was receiving power from the battery and the ignition. The starter spins freely and I can hear it clicking trying to get to the flywheel but it won’t bite, I ended up taking it to the mechanic since I don’t have the space to check properly and it’s been getting hot where I live. Previous owner did mention that he had changed the clutch recently so I wonder if that’s related. I’ll update this thread with the solution in case anybody else has this problem.
