cool, you know where to check wires, if the CAI is on it, then zip-tie a thermometer too it. Air temp is fine where it sucks.

oh, by "Close?" I meant, is the temperature measured by the thermostat, 'close' to what the computer thought it was.

Where rusted out cars don't exist
Remember that misfire issue I had because of the poorly installed spark plug tube gaskets? Well, over the weekend (Saturday) I got a misfire on cyl 3. A few questions:

Do these engines come with a helix coil from factory? Cyl 3 seems to have one. I know that cyl 2 has one because it blew up like 2 years ago. Not sure why cyl 3 would have a helix coil .

Related 1: the coil pack on cyl 3 looked pretty beat up. There was a orange rust like deposits around the entire coil pack for cyl 3. The boot look swelled up and it was a bit tough to put back on, but it still went on.

Related 2: There was some dried up oil down the spark plug tube, but it was the only tube that had no liquid oil in the tube itself.

I did check the coil pack wire harness to ensure it was securly plugged in, and checked the other 5 harnesses as well just in case. Also, I cleared the misfire code and it hasn't been back since.

Question 2:

How likely is it for a coil pack to go completely bad? Like, it won't fire anymore, bad. I bought a new coil pack for cyl 1 when I was doing the work since I was having a bad misfire on cyl 1 still on the day I got my car working. Replacing the coil pack fixed the misfire and there were no misfires until Saturday when cyl 3 had the misfire I just mentioned.

Very unlikely, with OEM, but it can happen.

Easiest way to check is swap the coil pack. Put#1 on #2, er whatever. Lol, I have 5 oem, original. i keep that on the rear back so the engine looks cooler even if a front one broke :) It tells ya real quick if the misfire follows it.

Oh, all 6 were Honda until last year. I bought aftermarket it worked fine for 9 mo. then it broke again, so I swapped it again. So expect aftermarket to be crap.

Thinking that it went bad, I threw it away. Trash is now gone, so I can't go dumpster diving for it anymore. It was OEM.

Cyl 2 is AutoZone's Duralast brand, and the only aftermarket one. It just needed some brake cleaner cleaning and it was fine. Cyl 1 still didn't work right even after using brake cleaner, hence why I replaced it. I replaced it with whatever brand O'Reily's carries. If it goes out again later, I'll replace it with another identical since it's lifetime warranty :). As long as it works.

Any idea on the helix coil thing for cyl 3?

ah, sorry for skipping that! None are factory. It looks like someone may have stripped yours. Depending on why they will or won't charge you, depending on who they will or won't tell you. We never had them from the factory that I know of.

Possibly the spark plug stuck to one, I'd be a bit worried about the condition of threads but stick one in with some kinda locktite, maybe red. And always, -ALWAYS-, use anti-seize on the new plug, to prevent it from sticking to the new helicoil.
