actually that is not true. i am still able to get free code scan from pepboy's full service center.

just because someone from popboy's you went scanned it for you for free doesnt mean CA did not banned free scanning service.

i get it scanned it for free from this one place all the time. does that mean CA didnt ban it? no....

up untill 70xxxmiles though... ima check that also though...

Well I only use Honda brand oil which is mobile1. They use 5w20, which is pretty thin but Honda recommended it. Its normal to burn a little oil running your car through vtec, but too much could be a sign of worn piston rings. Does ur car have a blue cloud at all from the exhaust?

Try replacing one qrt of oil with lucas oil stabilizer. You will love it, even the dealers use it.

I never said they didn't ban it. He said no one does free scans in California but they do. It was offered to everyone actually. There was a big banner posted across their garage.

On the other hand, I thought our car were spec for 5w-30?

they are 5w 30 but the owners manually recommends either 5 or 10w 40 after 70xxxmiles

Oh, I see. My car has 165k and I'm still using 5w-30. It burns about a quart every 5k but that's usually when I change my oil. I'm planning to go up to 10w-30 on the next change to see if that helps.

Thats not too shabby for a v6 with 165k miles. Well here is a link http://www.handa-accessories.com/accmaint00.html

I buy my oil from here and its 5w20. Instead of changing your oil viscosity, try replacing one qrt of oil with lucas oil stabilizer. I'm sure that will probably help a-lot. Most importantly back to the OT

OP-When you change your timing belt, depending on your miles. Make sure they change your crank and cam seal as well. Make sure they get the balancer belt on right or else ur car with shake and vibrate. See if they will at least do a complimentary compression test with your maintenance package, just to give you an idea of what kind of shape your engine is in. Good-luck and report back to us! BTW....you still need some pictures of your car bro! Come on man....
