Coiled down the Tein with problems

Man, this springs have alot of noise issues. I'm trying to avoid studying for finals because it makes no sense for me to do so but whatever, and so many people have issues. Unfortuanately nobody follows up on if the fixed it or not.

These seem to be the main culprits:
-Pillow mounts...described as a cluck by many people. Usually make noises on minor to medium bumps or imperfections. Fix, tighten the nut on top of the strut. It sometimes work, others say it's just part of owning these (could this be your issue)

-Dust boot-It rubs, in most cases when very low. One person called it a clicking noise. Cut it off

-Inproper isolation-clack sound-metal on metal contact. Tein sells isolaters, rubber "hats" for the spring (i would image these would already be on).

A few people had the problem you have, they couldn't go lower or the spring would bounce around too much (a few noticed marks and other things, letting them know the spring was moving)

Other people seemed to have had various install issues, a loose bolt here or there.

I don't know, there are alot of people asking quesions, i couldn't find many answers.


Again, contact tein, see what they say.

I know that someone from tein posts on honda-tech, i just type in "tein problems" or something. They describe what sorts of pictures to e-mail breifly and you have an e-mail address as well. I've noticed e-mail is amost always faster now adays, and you can't miss one like a phone call.

FWIW, because you just recently bought the kit tein might allow you to just swap out those springs for longer ones. don't what kind of springrate you'd have to go to though.

from the bottom of the threads, where it changes from green paint to threaded metal, to the bottom of the lower spring perch, is about 1/4" on my fronts right now. I just put on my wheels Sunday and lowered the front a tad more to set the stance off the way I like it. I drive 45 minutes each way to work M-F and haven't had any noises issues so far. However, last time I went lower, and just coiled them all the way down, I got some clunking. So I'm thinking I might just leave it where its at for now (which is about a 1 fat finger gap up front lol).

I'm still waiting on my order but I'll let you guys know how mine fit. Tein tech support said that the spring will pre-load on the highest height setting - normal or dropped, the only thing it affects is the shock travel length. So, if you try to slam the car, chances are that the shock will bottom out on high impact but it shouldn't make any noise riding over minor bumps.

wow, after reading this thread, Im not gonna go with Tein. I didnt realize the clunking problem was such a pain..

Im still waitin to see one of these "honda killers" youre talking about. Ive mentioned it to other members..there needs to be a pothole thread!

i remember when i had my Teins all the way down....the shock would kinda have to get used to riding at a certain height...maybe if you kept it down...the shock would eventually get used to riding at a certain level and stop after a while....

cause i remember...when i had it slammed for a while...then i would jack it up...the wheel wouldn't hang down as far as it used to...and the spring would stay tight with the suspension slammed and the wheel hanging...

mine is and inch from the bottom thread in front, about 1 1/4 in back


car sits with about an inch - 1.5 inch gap. when $125 H&R springs sat it with a 1/4" gap

The SS-P kit is a ride height adjustable setup via the spring seat, which adjusts ride height and suspension stroke simultaneously. By utilizing the kit at a setting lower than that recommended by our engineering staff, spring rattle may occur as the available adjustment range can affect a setting where the spring seat is positioned at a distance from the uppermount greater than the overall length of the spring. The SS-P kit for your application incorporates a minimum ride height drop of -1.2" front and -0.9"rear, with an engineer recommended ride height setting of -1.7" front and -1.5" rear. Please reference the installation manual for setup in this manner. At these levels, spring rattle should not be occurring. Usage outside of these specifications would be at your discretion and the described issue may be encountered. This may be alleviated by utilizing helper springs which keep the main coil spring seated at lower ride height settings. We have provided a recommendation for such parts below.
