Hey guys

Anyway back in the winter I had a small accident with my accord, I had about an inch of ice on my drive way (Went on vacation for a week, damn you Canada) and my car spun out on it when parking, and hit the tire and wheel of a van parked there as well. No damage to the Van, but neither vehicle could be moved because there was absolutely no traction on the ice. What ended up happening is the spinning rubber burned an left a big mark on the driver side of my bumper. It is very uneven and looks terrible, but is not a big enough issue to justify repainting the whole bumper.

Now I have a honda "baind-aid" decal, and was wondering how I could apply it to this uneven surface? Should I first sand it down, and then proceed to apply it as usual? I believe our bumpers are plastic so having a bit of the paint sanded would still be fine, is this correct?

Thank you for viewing

I will have a picture of the area up sometime tomorrow

You could sand it down but I don't see any advantage to doing so. I would apply the decal as it as it sits. Just clean the surface first.

The surface is quite rough and bumpy, wont this just not allow it to stick properly?

Thank you

A picture would help. I've applied vinyl to some oddball surfaces with no issues. Hard to say without seeing it though.

I was about to do the same thing. If you plan on fixing it down the road you could always sand it but if you just want to show that you have a boo-boo then don't do anything but maybe clean off the area and make sure it drys before you apply. I have some pretty hefty scratches in mine after wax and buffing the whole car last week. So I need to do some temporary fixes.

I have attached a couple of pictures. The longer part is recessed maybe half a mm. And its not just a sticker, I believe the surface has to be as flat as possible to apply this vinyl type decal, is this true? In that case sanding is the only option

Since it is a band aid to cover damage I would just slap it on there. I cut vinyl decals and I have applied decals on much worse.

Okay, sounds like a plan. Does it matter if I use a wet or dry application for this? Would the wet app give better results because the surface is uneven?

I’d just buff that out and leave as is, not like there’s a large dent or anything.
