Door speaker help!

My dad bought me some 6.5 speakers for Christmas and I finally got around to installing them because I bought the speaker harness. I noticed they didn't fit the mounting cup which I expected so I cut out the back but even then it did not fit? So what I'm asking is how did you guys get your 6.5 inch door speakers to fit? This is not really an emergency but I really want to get this done and over with since I have been waiting almost 3 months to hear my new speakers. Thanks in advance.

It depends on many things. You are correct that you will have to cut out the back of the mount, but the diameter of the speaker may be slightly larger. I would cut a piece of 3/4 mdf or some sort of HDPE and just make a new ring.

It also depends on the speakers that you purchase. The Kenwood 6.5's that I bought originally did not fit the speaker cup. I didn't really want to cut out the back of the cup, so I found a set of Pioneer 6.5's that were a shallower mount. No cutting required!

I've already cut into my mounting cups. The question I'm having is how they got a 6.5 diameter speaker to fit. Mine was too large. It shouldn't really matter if the diameters of the speakers are the same as the ones everyone else buys.

Because not all of the speakers that are listed as a 6.5" are actually a 6.5". Some are considered an oversized 6.5" and others may have a larger mounting flange.

I think the shallow 6.5'' Pioneers are best for Honda's. It sounds like it is still seating on the tapered part of the speaker, you may need to cut the hole a bit bigger. Did the speakers come with a template, you can use it for comparison.

Thank you. That has to be my problem. Looks like I'll have to try and sell these for enough to buy another pair. This time I'll make sure they not an over size.
