looks good....can you surf the net on there?...like if you pullup to a place with WiFi or something?

Yeah, I just need to get a wireless adaptor (most likely USB) I'm still researching to see what is the best. You can also use your cellphone if your carrier has internet availability to connect to the internet. Or, broadband wireless if you live in a big city

I'm jealous. This is a project i have been seriously concidering. I'm thinking about just buying a laptop and making it easy to remove and use for other tasks. These projects always make me want to go through with it.

There is pros and cons to a laptop, but it has been done. Like I said, this project took me almost 2 years to finish up, but I had always wanted to do it. When I started, I had never built my own computer so it was quite exciting when everything got done.

is the hole in the center at the bottom the divot you were talking about? what is that software called?? thats a nice looking setup man, good job

Nope, that's a hole I made for the Infrared Receiver so I can use the remote to turn off the screen, switch inputs, and change settings.

I guess I worded it wrong, it wasn't a divot, but a bubble in the paint in the upper right hand corner. I also used clear coat on the first round which ended up being too shiny

The software is called "Road Runner"

You did a great job! If you don't mind me asking, how much did all of the parts cost in the end? I'd love to do something like this, especially since I have a bunch of spare computer parts lying around.

TouchScreen = $350
Computer parts ~ $450 (I built a computer from scratch, you can save big money by using old parts)
DC-DC POwer supply with startup/shutdown controllers = $100
GPS Receiver = $50
Foldable keyboard = $20

Your setup looks good. I am not that far along with my carputer. I have been working on mine for over a year now and I dont think I will ever get it done. It will be cool to have GPS and all of my music with me in the car.

That's a nice setup.. I am using pretty much the same thing except that I have the Lilliput monitor and I am using Mobile Impact as my front end, also another frontend I use often is iCT (in-Car Terminal)... I like them better than roadrunner.. The GPS software I am using is iGuidance and the receiver I got was the Rikaline bluetooth receiver which works nicely, altho I would suggest you look for a USB GPS reciever because I have had some issues with Bluetooth connectivity. Other than that Everything looks good on yours.. I have a few video of my carpc

The thing I wanted a little info on is the AEM EMS software that you are going to install... where will you be getting the data for that software and how is it going to communicate with the carpc?? I have been looking into it and i really don't know where to start..

Thanks

Thanks for the input, I'll check out those frontends

The AEM EMS software can be downloaded from aem, but the only problem is you need to have an AEM EMS ECU to interface with the computer which is quite expensive and most useful for turbo and built applications (~$900 for the ECU). The ECU comes with a serial port and software that can be used to change settings on the ECU and monitor vitals as well as log runs.

I have a BU-353 USB receiver and Iguidance 3.0 installed and both work great
