man it sounds like those west coast cops are major D*** Heads! Sorry to head about your situation, you could always go back with that cling tint!

the california law is 70% in the front which is essentially clear, very hard to see the tint.

i have 55% and have been pulled over a few times and the cops never asked me about it.

I have 35%...so that means 65% light could get through...so yes it was to dark...but the cop didn't meter it...just looked at it. Court house will be called tomorrow

other way around...the % is the percentage of light passed through it...

inversely, 35% tint blocks 65% of light.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this but if the cop did not use a tint meter, you can get off. Plead not guilty, go to the court and ask the officer to show you the reading off the meter that proves it was that dark. If he can't provide that info to the court, judge is going to throw the case out.
In addition, you can also mention how you were pulled over for "rapid acceleration" or whatever he mentioned and got written for tints that the officer has no proof for (hopefully).
