FYI: These Coil-Overs HAVE specific dampening shock design to match spring rate. They'll have to custom make a Mono Tube shock to run a stiffer spring; their new design I believe, are well balanced for a street car allowing for great ride and enough stiffness to handle those tight turns. Everyone has their own opinion which they're entitled to... this is mine. I'm on my second set, by choice; not cause they broke or wore out. F2's are great Coil Overs for the money, hands down.

Thanks for the thorough response. Info like this is what I love about this site. Also, I do know that the stiffness of the ride depends more on the dampening than the spring, which is why I realize that the weakpoint of my suspension is the Tokico Blues that are mated to the Ground Control coilover sleeves. The only reason I started my search for coilovers is because after going through Tein STechs then upgrading to GCs, I don't want to waste any more time taking the suspension apart to put it back together again. I want to just take the old strut and GC combo out and be able to put a full coilover assembly in. I'm sure you know where I'm coming from, saying that I don't want to have to take the strut and GCs apart just to put them back together again and be disappointed with the final result.

Also, I know Koni Yellows are the cream of the crop when it comes to struts, but how to Tokico Illumias measure up? Are they anywhere near as stiff? I'm just curious.

Also, the GCs I have are for Tokico and come with the regular spring rates, I think they were 400-something. Not sure what the spring rates are measured in, but that's the number I remember the rep I spoke to on the phone gave me.
I see what you are saying but that shouldn't exactly stop you from getting what you want. For the money I'd say that Koni Yellows and Ground Controls are pretty good. You taking them apart won't be difficult either. It just takes a few more extra steps but it'll work.

Unfortunately however the little spindle you got doesn't fit on the Konis well so you'd have to get a new one that is specific for Koni shocks if you went that route. You could do the whole Illuminas route though like you were thinking of. I don't know about how stiff they would be but what I would suggest doing is calling up Tokico and asking them the tolerances of their shocks, meaning what is the highest spring rate that they would say their shocks can handle.

The Gound Control rates you have are close to a 7kg/mm spring rate.

NASOHC, I'd considering picking up a set of F&f type 2. You have listed in your first post the spring rates at 12k/6k but other places list them as 12k/8k and weksos even has them as 12k/10k

buy them direct and save yourself $85, that's what i did. mine were 950 shipped. I got them today.

^, what rear spring rate did you get? I was quoted direct from F&F as $980 taxed and shipped. I was hoping to find something a bit cheaper.

I dont know what spring rate it is to be honest with you. I just told the guy i needed a set for a CG accord. I dont have a set in front of me, but when I get home I can check to see if it says the spring rates anywhere.

I will double check again today, the spring rate I was given from them was back when I got my newer Type II's. If you're local and can pick up then no shipping, I can deliver (up to 50 miles)

sorry if what i wrote was misleading. i meant to say that im afraid of the border fees since im from canada. price is attractive, just not the custom fees. ive never order anything from the states above 100 bills.

i just read swollen_cu's fs thread. now im second guessing... im reaching 30 soon. i know many ppl have asked this but maybe ill rephrase so it gives everyone a better idea. if OEM ride is +/- 0, how would you rate the type1's (talking about cruising down the street)

then for hitting a pothole if +/- 0 is OEM then what would you rate the type1's?
