You did OK on the price. I have an 02 I4/Auto now, but I've been looking for a lower mileage 6th gen 5-spd for months now. The ones I see are either beat up or way overpriced. I think you can throw out the KBB on 5-spd Accords b/c only a small segment of buyers are looking for one. I'm only at 54K miles and I don't hear any piston slap. My 97 S10 2.2L, OTOH, started the slap around 50K miles. The dealer and the web said not to worry about it. It was well after the warranty period, so I just lived with it. When I sold it at 80K miles it was still slapping away, even at operating temp. I agree with the others about doing the t-belt soon. If I remember correctly from the user's manual it's X miles or 7 years, whichever comes first...and yeah, I've known a few people who've snapped their t-belts and had big repair bills.

WTF is "piston slap"?
I've never heard of it.
My LX has 125k and the engine sounds smooth as can be.
I didn't get the tbelt changed on my 95 V6 till last year at 113k. i got the t-belt on my LX done around 115k.

Piston Slap is like the knockingish sound when its like 30 degrees out that you hear... and it goes away when the car warms up... its usually on like the first start of the day... this car has it.. its not real bad.. but more than i thought it had when i was testing....

then thers a little knocking at like 2k rpms and its stressing me out... i have a 1k / 1 month warranty but dunno what to do... the knocking could just be like a gas / timing issue.. this little noise does it more when hot actually...

Mind you that i am VERY ANAL about SMALL noises... so maybe its not that bad.. i dont know... but the piston slap is kinda loud on the cold morning.. goes away in a few minutes however completely...

But thanks to all those who stressed me out further... i've driven old hondas my whole life... (had an 86 in 1998; and my 91 just died on me which was why i was looking for something decent finally) ANd the 91 i had paid $500 for just last year and fixed it up... now for the fist time in my life i fork out a little bit of money hoping for something reliable... and you folks gotta go and stress a dude out! I'm just praying to god this is a good investment - regardless of purchase price i guess... cause now i got the loan and dont be needing to pay for repairs in the process!!!!!! ****! haha

Cmon fellow Honda owners... make a dude feel good here!!

If it is a bearing it wouldn't keep me from getting the car, it's like a $50 part and you're probably looking at $100 for labor.

Stanley, glad I could lower your stress level a bit. Seriously, if you have a 1/1K warranty I would go TODAY to a Honda dealer or a good import shop and let them listen to the sounds you are hearing. If there is a problem they can write up an estimate. You can then go back to the car lot with the estimate in hand and demand that they fix it or give you the cash to do it. If the lot isn't a complete scamjob they should honor the warranty.

Again, don't stress on what you already paid for the car. I looked at a 98/ EX/5-spd/110K mi last week. The dealer wanted $6500 for it. No warranty, the check engine light was on, the interior was filthy and worn out, the tires were shot and the clutch was barely grabbing.

I meant I hope its not an engine bearing... and thats not cheap labor to fix i dont think... Have to rip the whole engine apart? I'm hoping for the best here...

but you're right... i'll stop by a Honda dealer and talk to their service dept and hopefully they will listen and see what they think.

An engine bearing does need the whole thing taken apart right?

Thanks fella's

Since you mentioned the clutch.. Does anyone know how much it woudl be to have a clutch changed on one of these puppies also? I think this one might last a year or two also... but I could be way off.. i havent had a 5 speed since my 88 accord actually when i was in college about 4 years ago.

Thought about having that changed while it was in for the timing belt or something...
