im pretty sure if you hardwired it, it would probably blow up as soon as power hits it. haha. thatd be funny.

but finch might know something about this. there was another airbag thread recently and there was some **** in it about wiring a single stage airbag to work in a dual stage car. idk about the other way around tho.

I'm the guy behind the other airbag thread and Dr. Finch advised that it was not a smart idea to hard wire anything to do with airbags; I concur. Good luck though, I'm stuck with an airbag that doesn't fit my car! :ugh2:

i have the other end of the airbag connector from the ep3 im just trying to figure out if i can get the wires from my single stage wired into the dual stage connecter then just be able to plug it right in so it can still disconnect, im not trying to connect car wires to airbag wires incase it sounded like that

Hardwiring shouldn't be a problem, all the bags are hardwired technically. It's the SRS unit that sends the 1-3A of current to deploy the bags.

Here's the problem I see: If you wire your single stage SRS unit to the 1st stage of the 2 stage bag, how much does that inflate it? Probably not enough. So, then you wire your single stage bag to BOTH stages of the airbag. What happens when both stage inflate the bag at the same time?

I'm not going to tell you to go do it or that it will work, I just don't know enough about how the SRS unit and airbag work and how precise the inflation has to be. All I'm really good for is figuring out what wires are there and which ones to connect.

A little wiki-research tells me that the first stage is for moderate crashes and the second stage is for severe crashes. So one or the other ignites, not both I would assume. So, wire up the the 2nd stage of the airbag for maximum protection in all crashes?

I thought the ep3 and dc5 fitment had no issues about the stages...My dc5 was plug and play .I wonder if the actual airbag could be swapped...maybe from another usdm civic (im pretty sure it's cheaper than hardwiring your ep3's airbag andgoes off) that way you use a civic's single stage airbag into your ep3 wheel that can match yours
