Has anyone painted a car themselves?

This is not my accord first off. I've been thinking about doing a cheap single stage job on my old jag just to tide me over. I know i should do it right the first time but to justify the price in paint for this car, i have probably years of work left and atleast $3,000 in parts (including interior) as well. Paint is the last thing on my very long list. I was thinking about just doing a cheapo job, hopefully in a friends garage (4+ cars). I don't care about minor imperfections, i may not even spend the time to get the body perfect. I just want a "20 FTer" job. Just wondering if anyone here has done this. I could probably do it for around $150 or so and have a decent knowledge about bodywork and painting and have read like 4 books on auto painting over the years.

I forgot to say, update me on this, either in this thread, your own, or by pm's. I've done smaller stuff and be happy but a full paint job is scary, even after using automotive paint alot (though an airbrush though), reading 4 books, and working with a painter turned library assistant that knows what's up and is giving me alot of advice and more to read. It's just a thing where i don't want to pay more for my "real' paintjob in the future from something i messed up if i do a simple single stage (which, should actually fit the car better and probably look more original than what i want to do).

simple stuff really, acetone, the paint, clear, a paint gun, primer, filling cones, and an air compressor (depending on your gun), sandpaper. that should be it, i think.
