I agree, it's true, astigmatism...in my experience, HID lighting improves night driving for me. My kit cost me under $150 and went into my first mod ever - Gunmetal Black Housed Projectors! Plus, it just looks more elegant and clean!

Funny I've been asking / talking about this in DIY...

I'm very much against blind-other-drivers brightness, but slightly better than stock isn't bad. It is a look thing to me... I think the white is a lot sharper than amber... but people spending hundreds of bucks to retrofit spotlights into their stock housings is just silly. There's really absolutely no reason to go (much) brighter than stock if you obey the speed limits and drive defensively. I think the biggest advantage of an HID or hyper-white bulbs is a look thing, to be honest.

And to each his own. Their our cars and we can do whatever the hell we want to them, ricer, non-ricer, its all whatever, so long as YOU like it.

.

Sometimes just driving defensively isn't enough at night on a dark road.
If it improves visibility and doesn't intefere with oncoming traffic it's something positive.
that's why I recommend a retro fit. But because that can be pretty expensive, you can use your stock headlights, just make sure their aimed properly.
One good way to do this is to kneel down about 100ft in front of your car with your HID's on. If their too bright for you, their too bright for oncoming traffic.

I actually beg to differ..I don't have any problem seeing ahead even though the foreground is very strongly lit..I think that varies from person to person and how well your eye sight is. Every lighting source has it's problems no doubt, but the argument here is does HID improve your visibility at night and is it worth it. I feel it's well worth it and it does improve your visibility.

I see where he's comming from, but you dont have projectors. With projectors, it has a strong visibility line inbetween what you can see and what you cannot see. It's like light and dark, you can see everythign that is illuminated around you, but once you get into that dark space, you cant see ****. So what I'm saying here is that you have stock reflector housings, so you dont have such a strong cut off of light and where its dark. It fades on so its not as bad. But either way I could see what he's saying.
