HID in stock reflector....safe enough? Other suggestions?

I know this has probably come up but I couldn't find anything. I know a lot of people just throw HID's in their stock housings without care for other drivers, I don't want to do this if it is not safe.

My stock lights just don't cut it at all. I can deal with it most of the year but when the weather is bad and it gets dark so early, I just don't even feel safe. I have adjusted my headlights and just checked them again recently too. My immediate area has no streetlights really at all, then I get somewhere that does and I can turn my headlights off really and see the same.

I just need a safe lighting upgrade that won't break the bank. Retro's are definitely out of the question, I don't have the time nor money right now.

When I had 5000k HIDs in my stock housings, all I did was just aim them extra low.. after that nobody would flash their highbeams at me anymore

Yes. As long as you get something that's not rediculously bright and you aim them a hair lower you should have no issues. Ive had my 5000K for some time now and not only do I love them but I never see, or hear, any complaints.

Have you checked out the Morimoto H1 retro? Apparently it's much easier to do yourself than the TSX, and much less expensive. There are a couple threads on it, I'd take a look at those as they could be an option.

If not, I would not rule out putting HID lighting in your stock housings. Yes there will be glare, but it is minimal with OEM Stanley reflectors and if you aim the lights correctly you shouldn't have a problem. I've had 6k HID in my stock housings for a few years, and never gotten flashed once. When there is a car in front of me, the light stops just below the top of their trunk. The only time my lights end up in someone's eyes is if I'm going up a hill and they're coming down, but that will happen with halogen too.

Basically, everything that's bad about having HID lighting in stock housings is magnified with aftermarket housings.

just aim them low. i when i put this recent pair in, i had them at the normal/non hid level and i got a few flashes from other drivers

i turned them down 540-720degrees and so far no complaints

I imagine their housings are built for HIDs but think of all the cars out there that come from the factory with HIDs in a non-projector housing. TLs, CLs, Lincolns, Caddys, Nissans, Fords...there's a bunch.

That's actually doable. Even at that price, it's cutting it close but I can finance them through selling off some misc audio gear. I just need this album to come out, lol, I am making like $600-1000 per month right now. No rent though so not as terrible as it sounds.
