I heard that we are all illegal for having HID in our factory housings... Is this a true statement? Also is the blackhousing illegal as well? I'll just tell the inspector that it says DOT on the lense so it must be legit. LOL

^Yes, HID's in our stock headlights is illegal. I'm almost sure blackhousing won't pass for inspection either.
Ask Sketch about it. He had to switch out his headlights for inspection.
But be sure to check this out

Guess ill be doing my retro b4 January then... just wanted to double check. I saw sketch's post on another thread and I figured I would ask here. Thanks man! I'll have to post pics of my hid soon. When I get the time.

Actually, aftermarket HID's are illegal.
Most cars who stock HID's use projectors to illiminate glare with the exception of a few vehicles. (older TL's. Some cadillacs, Navigators, & the Prius)
Some people who work at NJ inspection stations are aware of the cars with stock or aftermarket HID's.
Now here's where it can get tricky.
Say if you have a car with projectors and non-hid lights (Like my audi A4) you can install HID's and more than likely still pass inspection.
But the only (main) problem with HID's is preventing glare to oncoming traffic which can be especially dangerious in the rain
Another problem is the misconception of HIDs
People think the higher the kelvins, the better the light output which is completely wrong
You see people with dark blue or purpleish colored HID's (10,000-12,000K) and guaranteed their lighting output is poor when compared to a much lower Kelvin 4300-6000K

BUT
if you put the factory bulbs back in, some inspection stations may not notice or care
I'm not sure what the gripe may be though if you black out your headlights but leave in the amber reflective strips

I left in my corner amber strip and would of course put other bulbs back in when inspection time came and hopefully they won't notice the blackhousing. My car is just getting too illegal. HID's, illegal tint, blackhousing. I gotta fix some of this stuff. Not the tint tho, I love my tint.
