I think evo's get a bad reputation from dsms, and people think they have a weak motor. Even in dsm's, the motor is rarely a problem They have a bunch of problems with other things, not so much the engine. And don't bring up crankwalk, it doesn't really happen. Anyway, the 4g63 is one of the most industructable 4 cyl around. Peope have made 450 hp on a stock long block with no problems. 400 is more realistic. But even i mildly built motor will be able to get in the 500+ range if you can make the power.

the engine itself is not weak, its the timing compnents that are weak. never have i heard of an engine that snaps timing/balance shaft belts so often. im speaking from a 1g perspective since most of my friends own "some"...aka parts cars.

There are 03 evo's that have as much 100k with out no problems that I've seen, 02+ bug eye's subi's had very bad tranny's also. Bottom line both cars had problems and are 2 of the Best bang for buck performance sedan's you can buy. I know many of us love our 6th gens even though we had worse tranny problems :)
