Intake Plenum leak

I have a pretty bad vacuum leak on the intake plenum of my 4 cyl. I just replaced it a few weeks ago, torqued to spec in a criss-cross fashion and now it leaks worse than before with the idle surging constantly in park or neutral. Maybe the matting surfaces are slightly warped, not to mention the metal gasket is extremely thin. Has anyone cut a fiber gasket and used as a replacement?
What size would be the best fit? .020? .040?

Retorque it or use a little bit of RTV. Never had a problem sealing mine.

You replaced the plenum, right? Just making sure I read that right. Also, I never heard of using a metal gasket on an intake... I would imagine a basic felpro or o'reilly gasket would work better
