Dealer quoted me $800 to do the belt (no mention of water pump or other components) on my F23, I nearly laughed in the service writers face, especially since they told me it needed done and there's a Honda sticker (from another dealership) on the cover that says it was done 50K miles ago. Of course that was part of the 1600 they quoted me for various things ($450 for a balljoint?!?) after I took it in simply to have the seat belt buckle replaced.

Regarding checking it, you can take the upper timing belt cover and get a good enough look at it.

where would this be on the J30?

Not familiar with the V6, but if you look just to the side of the valve cover you should see the upper timing belt cover. You may need to remove the valve cover to ge the timing belt cover off.

Here's what I found with teh google.

J32 is close enough to J30 yes? Anyway you can see the timing belt cover in the second and third photo, where he says to line up the marks. The plastic round cover is all that stands between you and the timing belt.

Honestly the V6 looks like it's crammed in there and of such a PITA job that I would consider paying someone to do it. I4's are no big deal, I've done lots of random timing belts on I4s in camries/civics/escorts and the like.

maybe, I don't know, honestly this is the first forum I've ever ben on that actually had the rep enabled.

meh, I'm not concerned with rep on a website, just trying to help some people out while I'm bored at work, this site has already helped me out in the first week of ownership, so it's just nice to give a bit back to the community.

edit: I see where I got rep, but don't know if there's something I have to do with it or not. Thanks though.

I'd go with OEM parts for timing belt and waterpumo no matter what and .... OP, you have posted under DIY(Do it yourself) section which is not what your threat/topic is about.

Thanks for the replies all. I need to get a quote for the labor around here. Sucks that the numerical value for costs doesnt change, but the exchange rate eats you alive. Guy might quote me 500 - 800 but it will be in Pounds instead of USD. Oh, whoa is me.

Should I consider getting these as well, since the T.A.S kit doesnt include them?

"timing belt tension adjuster * timing belt tensioner * timing belt idler * both accessory drive belts * front crankshaft seal * two front camshaft seals"

My bad. Since I was thinking of doing it myself, I posted here.
