Hello to everyone here!

So i just bought a 2002 accord coupe 5-speed about 2 months ago from my dad.....didnt want it, but he gave me quite a significant discount on it....plus, for a 2002, its only got about 48,000 miles since he just drove it to the airport and back. My previous car was a 98 Ford Contour SVT, so, no offense, but going to this Honda was a significant decrease in power. I figured this new car would prove to be way more reliable......

Right after buying it, it is in perfect shape. About 3 weeks later, turns out my clutch dies. My dad did teach my sister to drive a stick with it, so thats gotta be partly to blame. The shop said the master cylinder had a leak, which lead to the clutch dying? Anway, that ended up being a $1,200 repair. I know, i know...everyone says i could get an aftermarket clutch for much cheaper, but im not looking to mod this car at all.

So, 50,000 miles and clutch is replaced. Just 2 weeks ago from today, while driving home from work, the car is in 5th gear, and when i give it a little gas, the shifter pops out of 5th and into neutral. Rest of trip, no 5th gear, and when in town i notice the transmission is whining in 3rd and 4th. I figure it was a clutch prob, since the clutch was under warranty, so i take it back to the shop.

Shop tells me that its a transmission problem and quotes me $2,500....im like whatever im taking it to the Honda dealership, they know what they're doing there.

Honda dealership confirms transmission is dead...with only 50,000 miles!!! My options were:

1) Brand new honda trans.... $4,000 in parts alone.
2) Rebuild current trans....would be $2,500 and comes with 3 year warranty

or...

3) He has a japanese spec transmission that will match right up, but is used with 40,000 miles on it. Total bill would be $1,700 plus tax. Only a 3 month warranty.

I go for #3. So, in all, i have spent over $3,000 in repairs already on this car....

I dont see how the best you can do is 2,500$. Rebuilding my automatic was priced well below that, and automatics are much more expensive and time consuming than manual trannies. I had a complete tranny swap to manual for less than 1,800$ including labor/parts.

These are great cars, so I don't want to hear any domestic/import rants.

welcome to the site, and you're being way over charged for those tranny deals imo.

I would have bought a used trans at a salvage yard. 50 bucks a pop and the transmissions from the 5thgen accords are plentiful.

so if you already dropped the dough on a new tranny, are you only coming here to whine?
i'm not trying to be mean or anything, i was just wondering if you had a question.

No, not coming here to whine, i guess im just trying to see if it was common to have these kind of problems with such low mileage. I do have to say, i love the gas mileage... I get about 31 mpg driving 60 miles a day to work!
One random question...if i remove the accord emblem from the trunk, are there any holes behind it or am i good? I read about some vent visors on here already and will prob get those soon.

And my car is black. Ill get some pics when i get a chance

the tranny blowing up is usually common with the auto's, moreso the v6 auto trannys. ive never heard of the 5 speed dying on a stock setup car....or any car for that matter, haha

and no holes behind the accord and the lx, dx, or ex emblems. only emblem with holes behind it is the H on the trunk.

Welcome to the site. There is alot of useful info, so search is your friend.
The auto's usually have the problems, and it seems as if you got ripped off a couple times.
