Hello to everyone here!
So i just bought a 2002 accord coupe 5-speed about 2 months ago from my dad.....didnt want it, but he gave me quite a significant discount on it....plus, for a 2002, its only got about 48,000 miles since he just drove it to the airport and back. My previous car was a 98 Ford Contour SVT, so, no offense, but going to this Honda was a significant decrease in power. I figured this new car would prove to be way more reliable......
Right after buying it, it is in perfect shape. About 3 weeks later, turns out my clutch dies. My dad did teach my sister to drive a stick with it, so thats gotta be partly to blame. The shop said the master cylinder had a leak, which lead to the clutch dying? Anway, that ended up being a $1,200 repair. I know, i know...everyone says i could get an aftermarket clutch for much cheaper, but im not looking to mod this car at all.
So, 50,000 miles and clutch is replaced. Just 2 weeks ago from today, while driving home from work, the car is in 5th gear, and when i give it a little gas, the shifter pops out of 5th and into neutral. Rest of trip, no 5th gear, and when in town i notice the transmission is whining in 3rd and 4th. I figure it was a clutch prob, since the clutch was under warranty, so i take it back to the shop.
Shop tells me that its a transmission problem and quotes me $2,500....im like whatever im taking it to the Honda dealership, they know what they're doing there.
Honda dealership confirms transmission is dead...with only 50,000 miles!!! My options were:
1) Brand new honda trans.... $4,000 in parts alone.
2) Rebuild current trans....would be $2,500 and comes with 3 year warranty
or...
3) He has a japanese spec transmission that will match right up, but is used with 40,000 miles on it. Total bill would be $1,700 plus tax. Only a 3 month warranty.
I go for #3. So, in all, i have spent over $3,000 in repairs already on this car....
