B&G kit worked wonders for me.

but yes. get MUCH higher grit sand paper, WETsand even circular strokes (one direction, no matter how fine grit the sand paper, will show) and use either a clear coat sealant, or rubbing compound.

The 3M kit should have come with a 600 grit, 800 grit and then a very fine soft patch for the final step, plus you should always wet sand. Also it comes with polish and a foam disc for the polishing. Sounds like you are missing some pieces in your kit.

That's odd. I've used the same product on 4 sets of headlights and the end result was always excellent.

i use 2000 with 3m finish-it rubbing compound and then swirl mark remover/ glaze
guaranteed perfection
