This is the same band that I shot before in studio and posted here... well one of their guitarists left the band so they got a new one and wanted some new pics. It wasn't a planned shoot, we did it last minute because the one we were planning fell through. So we drove to the Art Deco District in downtown Miami at noon so the sun was nice and bright. This was my first time using the Vivitar 285hv off camera fired with the Cactus V4 and I think I did pretty good for my first time. Any suggestions (preferably on posing, and how to get five teenagers to cooperate for one picture) would be awesome!

1. I liked this one, except for the damn lens flare on his ear, didn't notice until I got home:

2. Noticed the sun acted as a hair light on this one, hehe:

3. Different spot:

Excuse the massive flickr link. But they used some of my old shots for a concert poster and you could barely see my name in the corner of those shots, so I purposly overexaggerated these. It's not like they were paying clients so they can deal with the advertising. :p

First one is the best shot, as I'm sure they thought as well, since you can clearly see all of the members.

Good shots though, Ray Ray.

There are shadows all over the place, you should find a way to diffuse the off-camera flash to soften up the shadows a bit.

nice pics man but question, how are you using the flash? mounted on a tripod/stand? person holding it? or just placed somewhere. You should consider picking up a umbrella bracket and umbrella. It's very inexpensive and will soften the lighting.

what are you lighting with? the shadows on the shirts kinda take away... if you put ur fill light way up top, you would have got rid of that

next time i would refuse to take pictures until that jackass gets another shirt to wear...

i like the first one but the facial expression of the frontman looks kinda odd..looks like you did a good job at connecting to the band though...photos don't seem forced
i shot a band in knoxville a few times and i would have a few shots for poses but other times i would just snap while they were just messing around...but this shoot looks good!! i wish i had some external lighting minus my speedlight

Yeah I was shooting the 285hv wirelessly with it mounted on my old tripod. It was bare, unless you count the wide angle diffuser it came with, I had that on it. The first two shots, it was right of the camera; the last three, it was left of the camera.

And I know there's going to be shadows. Like I said it was noon in Miami and I was using a single flash to try and light five people. I just ordered another Vivitar this morning, so next time I'll use both and shoot later in the evening... see how they come out then. Thanks for the suggestions/compliments!
