this is why this thread it completely useless.. you make a thread then dissapear all the time. its what you do.

When I was a lot younger, I learned that statements like that usually don't start anything that ends well. Instead, you could make a constructive suggestion or ask a question OR PM me if you have a problem.

I don't live on this forum so I try to include as much info as possible in my threads when I'm on, but when have I disappeared again? If you know much about me from my various postings, you'll know that most of them were done from halfway around the world in Afghanistan so I had to spend my free time doing more important things. I can't imagine what you're talking about, but if I left something unanswered at some point, let me know.

Maine/Boston/New York is where I am from originally brah, and you gotta love lobster. Cold weather lets you know you're still alive - I love it. Only reason I was in Oklahoma was to finish university and get my degree.. So glad to be outta that liberal middle of nowhere brokeback cowboy wasteland.

Lobster is indeed off the chain! I just grilled some lobster tails for friends earlier.

Definitely didn't have a brokeback experience there, or anywhere.. That's just fkd up for you to even say that haha. The reason I said that about Oklahoma is because it pretty much sums the place up. Really artsy, hipster, and openly flamboyant folks there, as well as numbskull good ol' boy cowboy types who don't know how to handle their alcohol or let others enjoy a beer at the bar without proving how big their nuts are. The two mixed together, along with the fact that outside of Oklahoma City there is close to NOTHING anywhere except fields, plains, and crystal meth - well you can see why I have described it the way I have. So yeah, I can say I'm glad to be back to New England where I belong.

Openly flamboyant? I wouldn't have guessed that. It's commonplace here in Atlanta though.

Back to the wrap...did you soak it before you applied it or not? I also heard that a mild amount of smoking is normal for the first few minutes that it's heated up after install. Do you have any pictures of your wrapped pipes?

For whatever reason, you either felt or feel like I didn't answer something at some point. Let me know what it was and we should be able to sort it out.

To be honest, I haven't installed it yet because I found some areas where some of the touch up welds from the dude that welded the downpipe before blew through, so I need to get those fixed before I seal the piece up with heat wrap. I imagine some smoke is definitely going to come off, just as it would after handling the hotside of a turbo, or manifold - gets so hot that everything burns off even any tiny bits of oil, grease etc. cause vapors/smoke. LOL even if there is smoke - it's not the heat wrap burning, you can be assured of that; wrap in confidence. The heat wrap is made of similar material that they make fire-proof woodstove oven gaskets from - I don't think it's actual asbestos but something very similar. Make sure you have no leak issues under the area you wrap though.

I have no worries about the wrap burning or holding moisture. I was told to expect a good degree of smoking for the first 10 - 15 minutes after the wrap is installed. I'll let you know what difference it makes and post pics as soon as I get the car back from the shop in a few weeks.

Turbo manifold and downpipe wrapped. The kit didn't come with silicone spray so the shop didn't use any and after about 10 minutes of running, the color has completely burned off of the wrap. It now looks like white/tan wrap, but still looks good and has been VERY effective. I haven't posted pictures because it's now back in the shop for a few minor issues and a clutch upgrade. The stage 3 clutch could not hold the power that it's now making. I'll have pics of the wrap up in about 2 weeks in addition to new dyno vids...he should be making a little over 500whp!
