So my alarm all of a sudden quit working. You press the lock button once and the doors lock, but the lights don't flash, and if you press the button again, the horn doesn't honk and nothing happens. Is there a "usual suspect" for this? Or do I have to bring it in to the dealership?

i assume you have the OEM alarm. it never happened to me before! when i usually press the lock button twice just to make sure but it honked on the second try also. the only problem with my alarm is, my driver side door lock won't lock. so it doesn't arm my alarm.

dude, to tell ya the truth i wouldnt even bother going to the factory cause their going to overcharge u like a *****, this would be the perfect time to upgrade that alarm system, u can get a pretty decent alarm for a little over 200, unless its something that they can fix easily, just upgrade

Yeah, sorry, its the factory alarm system. It used to work fine, but all of a sudden tonight it decided to not arm (honk and flash lights).

I don't really need to upgrade my alarm system, I just want it to work again, and $200 for an upgrade sounds like more than I'ma pay the dealer to fix my OEM system, especially if its just a lock issue or something related.

Any other thoughts? Could my local car shop that does alarm installs possibly troubleshoot this for me or even fix it? Or is it simply a matter of puckering up for the dealership? I don't want to waste money on a whole new alarm system if its not neccessary, but I need an alarm b/c I work in a "less than secure" environment and my sound system, tinted windows, and 17s are begging to get me jacked.

If you're really worried about getting jacked you'd probably be better off getting an aftermarket one anyway. They usually have much better security features. I doubt an alarm install shop would repair a factory alarm.
