Well I Started by Taking everything apart. I decided I was gonna mask the corner reflector part(part that looks like disco bal;l with bumps and whatnot) but blackout everything else.

So after everything was Painted with a VHT Black Gloss paint. I started to remove the masking Tape, and to my Horror.
#1: The chrome started peeling off with the tape.
#2: The paint started peeling too because it had no grip on the chrome surface.

So to make a long job even longer. I scraped, sanded, and dremeled(with wire brush) all the paint off again and also took off the chrome surface too and sanded the plastic to give the paint some Bite into a surface it could hold.

My advice to anyone thinking of blackhousing, Sand your chrome parts first.

Even the painter's tape can take up the chrome parts. It did on mine. So I have to repaint everything black the second time around. I think it turned out looking way better anyways.

--> Yes, the chrome part is a big PITA <--

lol i was just lazy and painted the entire housing black. Didn't do any prepping or sanding and it came out fine.

yep, one time i taped off the reflector and peeled the tape up a little before painting...took the chrome with it :madrun:

saved me lots of time/effort in the end :hihi:

heres a tip:
get some newspaper and wrap it around the coner area.
or stuff it in the corner part. then get a smaller strip and tape it to a part on the headlight that isnt part of the reflector. then tape onto the newspaper inside the corner area.
do that all around until everything is covered.

its kinda hard to explain. but you really dont need to mask the whole thing.

honestly... just spray everything black ( i did the 2nd time i blackhoused mine).. it looks better anyway.

Mine didn't peel the chrome up at all, I taped off the corners. I used regular 3M blue painter's tape.
