Whoever said they would count they caps on their amp is retarded. No offense cause you're not a bass head like me. The real purpose of a capacitor is to relieve stress from the alternator. I know, I've replaced one due to my last system. 1400watts RMS 2 12" Audiobahns. Rock the block kinda bass. Anyway, the capacitor is a cheap alternative to a dry cell battery which are expensive.
I've been looking at getting two 12" Type R Alpines for a while now. The only problem is they are so dang expensive with an amp that would run them. The Type R's are rated 500-1000RMS so yes your 400watt amp is underpowering them. Yes underpowering is bad.
Other than that I like the setup except you would get much more bass out of this sub in a sealed box with the right dimensions. And to help your trunk rattle problem if you have it with one 12". Get the dynamat trunk kit. I installed mine myself and the trunk rattle was gone.

eggy you would have a q very nice... I have a 15 myself, and I just ordered a 12" bl for similar output in a smaller package :)

and can anyone tell me why underpowering a sub is bad? I like how people hear something somewhere and just generalize it as truth. Underpowering is only bad when you use an amp with say 400 rms on a 500 rms sub, so to compensate you put the gains all the way up and do something known as "clipping" the sub. Google it if you want. Underpowering will NEVER EVER damage a sub no matter what in the hands of a responsible owner.

Like the single sub, if you're not heavy in to bass, then that's a good setup, still leaves you with most of your trunk.

I would at least try and run the sub at the recommended RMS rating though.

That is incorrect. :fail: A capacitor has very little reserve (how much juice it can hold), causing more strain on your alternator. Especially stock electrical. An actual battery would do more good. What a capacitor has that a battery doesn't is speed. Thats why car audio batteries like Stinger, Kinetic and Powermaster are so benneficial. They have a larger reserve capacity and deliver juice much quicker than your typical battery and also recharge much quicker. There's also something called a Bat Cap. Its around 70% battery and 30% capacitor give or take depending on the model. It has less reserve than your average car audio battery, but it delivers quicker with less impedance rise and more amps.

BTW underpowering a sub is perfectly fine and has more to do with a subs efficiency. Pushing the amp to it's limits and clipping the sub is a different story.

Still relieves a small amount of stress as I have not replaced another alternator and have the same system and agreed that Stinger Dry cells are a better option just that they are more expensive. Stop getting on every little thing I say. It's annoying!:puke:xx24xx:puke:eggyhustles

Underrated and underpowered are two different things smartness and learn how to spell. That's why the red line is under your word!:afro:

You said underpowering is bad, correct? well the q is rated @ 1500 and i'm giving it 700 and i've haven't run into any problems..maybe you meant clipping is bad?

Clipping is bad yeah... underpowering bad in the longggg run. Won't do anything to the subs in the short run. Most people don't have their subs long enough to experience what underpowering does because they either blow them or sell them. And when I saw underpower, I'm not talking about 100watts. It would have to be more to really do damage anyways.
The point is for optimal performance of your subs you should be in the RMS range of the sub... stop being cheap and get a good amp guys. It's what makes your system come to life. Then again, maybe you can't handle it.:dunce:

And yeah I puked on you. lol no hard feelings

Still don't understand you..i could have a 5000 watt amp on the sub and the sub won't see it until i jack up the volume. so...
