Yes, or you can use an exacto knife.
You don't need a lot of pressure to cut through the tape though, so be careful.

Hey im new here but my $ 0.02 use a black out tape(4bucks a roll) ... if u decide its not for u then u take it off and if u want to keep it then keep it till it falls off then spray away ...

what do you mean by heavy wash? i washed my car and it was fine...
it's not even neccessary to scrub it like you're taking a shower. do it gentle and it's fine..then you can scrub as hard as you want everywhere else. just be smooth and don't use as much pressure with it.
but if you do it right, like i did, it won't come off even if you scrub it, the soap should lubricate it enough so that it slides right over and doesn't cause friction between the plasti-dip and whatever you use to wash the car.

you need to rub with a real fine sandpaper then prime and paint its on for good.

what about the people that have the metal colored (plastic) molding like this one pictured below, mine is coming off and the paint is peeling off it (not the right year accord but you can clearly see the same metal molding that comes on our 6ga's

Um, no you don't. Not if you're using Plasti-Dip. Or blackout tape.
Your "permanent" method probably isn't the way to go...
If the chrome finish is already coming off the parts, then you should sand the pieces so there's no lines in the pieces from the flaking, and then you can either use the blackout tape or the plasti-dip. There's really no good way to get it looking like chrome again. Unless you can find new trim pieces or snag some from a junkyard car.
