Painting/refinishing exhaust manifold shield

Hey everyone ive been cleaning up my engine bay for the last 2 days and it's looking like new! There is just one thing that bugs me and that's the exhaust manifold shield. It isn't an eyesore just need to be cleaned up and repainted (haven't decided on silver or black). I just took it off without a problem, only thing is there's a wire that looks like it connects into the manifold at the bottom of the shield. How do I remove this to get the shield completely off n ready for paint? And once plugged back in it shouldn't throw any codes should it? Thanks and I appreciate the help! Oh and it's a 2002 4 cyl coupe ex silver stock and furious!

its an O2 sensor. you need a special socket to get it off if you cant get a wrench in there

o2 socket or 7/8 wrench works too.

Thanks for the responses guys ! I actually just unplugged it yesterday and everything turned out fine. My engine bay is now looking fresh like from the factory.
