USM and IS are a winning combo.

You should NOT think of any of those variable aperture lenses as "fast". They are not.

If that's what you want, keep the 18-55 IS and start saving.
And technically, the Sigma lens has USM and IS too, but not with Canon's branding (or FTM focusing, which I only have on my 28-135 and seldom use).

580 EX II is where it's at. Great stuff right there. I don't use any body that's not gripped.

BTW, I only shoot at f/2.8. I'm not a prime user though. f/1.8 doesn't mean much to me when it's not useful on a shoot.

Yea, i'm still adjusting myself to shooting with the grip. It makes things so much more convenient, except my camera strap gets in the way a lot. The F/1.8 or F/1.4 even is really handy for me when I shoot in low-light because 9 times out of 10, i'd rather shoot without the flash. Then again, it's time for me to start practicing shooting with a flash as well.
