f/2.8 or faster zoom, or a fast prime. More importantly a good flash. You really can't do a wedding without spending some $$$.

Just picked up a 70-200 f/4 IS:

The f/4 IS seems really small/light compared to the f/2.8 IS....

Wait, did you just get the f/4 as a smaller telephoto zoom? Lol, Idk why you'd have both regardless, but if you have the means...

Still have that 40D?

Yeah, I'd rather have a 300 f4 for the price, but the deal I got was too good to pass up (local). It will make a good combo for when my wife is second shooter at sporting events. It's a very solid telephoto and much lighter than the 2.8 IS version. I'll probably be looking to swap it out for the 300 f4 eventually though....

I still have one of my 40D's, but I sold the other one a while ago. I got my asking price ($650) on Craigslist locally. I got lots of interest, but had quite a few people back out until I got one person who e-mailed it, and met me with cash an hour later!

Local?!?! You should've told me about it! Gah!
I got another 580 EX II from a guy and he talked me into the 70-200 while I was there! Haha. He said he got 31 e-mails in about 6 hours about the flash!

The f4 versions are sooo sharp, I love the size and quality of mine.
It's definitely way sharper than my 2.8 IS at 200mm wide open.

...i thought a lower f value helps produce a sharper picture
On the same lens, stopping down (smaller aperture, higher f-number) will be sharper. From lens-to-lens it varies. High quality lenses can have wide apertures (low f-number) and still be very sharp.

Yea, I had a fun time trying to find a 580 EXII. Ended up buying a new one with the Canon rebate.

Oh yeah, Happy Birthday by the way!
