metallic paper is crazy :aznrun:

the order i just got looks AWESOME. aside from a couple "blooms" in "no contrast" areas the prints look amazing.

so far from adoramapix, ive used metallic, matte, and lustre. the matte shows lots of detail so any out of focus areas are obvious :skurred: but ive always loved the matte texture. the lustre is a good balance of color and sharpness. metallic loses some sharpness in trade for crazy color effects. i had a couple nature/flower shots and WOW...pop off the paper :boink:

why not move to photobucket? and if flickr does randomly delete your ****, you should have backups of all the JPEGs you uploaded, it'll just kill your direct links in place.

I <3 photobucket for it's free-ness and they don't really snoop in your account unless it gets reported. 1 gb storage, 25 gb bandwidth fo free!

i have photobucket...dont like how slow the site it and that they resize everything. if i upload at 900 or 1024px, i've specifically sharpened to that size.

it's not the deletion of the images that would piss me off the most...it's all the tags, links, descriptions, groups, contacts, and perma links i would lose.

so far i have:
photobucket
here on 6ga
zooomr
flickr

zooomr sucks cause its slow, no batch stuff, album creation never works, and sometimes the pics will be "unavailable." but its free and unlimited, so random **** goes in there...mostly FS stuff.

i'm still leaning towards smugmug cause flickr doesnt give enough for $25/year when i can already put 200 pics in it. ive had that account since like mid-07 and with unlimited zooomr for all my "****" i'm just now at 171 in my flickr...

my **** doesn't get resized on PB... i resize all my pics for 1200x800 and then choose the "1mb filesize" option when uploading to FB so it won't resize it, granted it's under 1MB

photobucket iz teh slow though...

why not get yourself your own domain for that money? you wouldn't get all the social ****, but at least no one could tell you what you can and cannot do.

I have a Photobucket, Flickr, and SmugMug account. I use the SmugMug for selling prints
(and for having my own photos printed). I don't know much about programming, but if you
do, the sky's the limit.

Just got back from the PSP Chicago Open (paintball). More photos from around town to come later. For now:

I played in this event, so I was unable to cover anything on-field, but I did
manage to snap some photos of the trade show during my down time.

mmmmm. Kinda late, but I think for any sort of semi-professional photo service, I would have to say SmugMug would be my choice. For $150 a year, I would have unlimited storage and bandwidth for my photos (and HD video!) to show clientele. They also then have the option of having SmugMug doing the prints for them on just about...anything really. SmugMug gives you a complete package. Just take a look at some of the examples of pro accounts from SmugMug.

I'm currently using a flickr pro account because I'm still at the "hobbyist" stage. I have an external HD that I use to backup my photos and primarily just use flickr to share my photos. With the few gigs that I've done; I personally delivered DVDs of the photos to my clients and promised that I'll have a backup for a year so that in case of anything, I can reburn them another DVD.

Personally, I don't see the need for a SmugMug account, but I feel as if it has true benefits for the people who are like xluben and selling prints.

zooomr is my online backup solution for most pics, that is. all the others are on an external, and on my RAID 1 computer so there's 3 copies right there. once in a while, i'll make a dvd and put it somewhere else justtt in case.

i wish there was a sweet mix between flickr and smugmug...a place where people dont use 40 tags per image and add it to as many pools as possible. a place where it's not a popularity contest judged by how many views/comments you have. most of all...a place that people actually use.

ahhhh i'm so torn. not good enough to sell prints but ready to move on past the "facebook" type of site...

QFT

I toss everything that I do for fun on flickr, but I think a SmugMug Power account would be great for selling the occasional print and showing clients web-based versions of their photoshoot.

EDIT: If anything, the Power account is $60 a year which is only twice the price of a flickr pro account. You can have your own hostname and banner too. I definitely think it's pretty clean cut. I'll prolly upgrade to a SmugMug Power account once my flickr pro subscription runs out in December.
