Can anyone tell a complete photography no0b what they have found as "necessary accessories" for their photography - Lens Hoods, UV Filters, Cleaning items, etc
Bought the wife a surprise gift to cheer her up on the weekend, and want the action to last a little longer if you guys get what I mean......

They say that a ring on the finger serves the same purpose as a ring in a pigs nose - stops them rooting!

Camera is a Canon EOS 1000D with 3 Lenses - 15-55mm IS, 35-80mm non IS & 75-300 non IS if this helps, have already had some good info supplied to lose the two non IS ones and upgrade to a 55-250 IS model. So any other info on accessories that would be invaluable to have please let me know.

Thanks peoples

A Giottos Rocket Blower, Zeiss lens fluid, a large amount of lens cloths, a small LED flashlight... even a table tripod can be useful

Lens Pen and rocket blower is good stuff. I don't really like using filters; I prefer the hood instead. I only use a filter for extreme conditions. A nice bag to keep everything in. I flash too; the difference is night and day.

I keep hoods on all my lenses at all times.

I also keep UV filters on all my lenses at all times, but that one is highly debated.

same here, keep hoods all the time on my lens though I don't like filters and never use them. After I take pictures I just put the cap back on and once a week clean all my equipment from dust so it looks like brand new.

I need to buy some better UV filters, because I use them all the time.

If it weren't for my UV filters, my 70-200 would have a nice scratch on the front element.
