I went to an oil change place,

Bad idea.

They "accidentally" did my power steering fluid, which ended up being free.

However now my question is, I doubt its OEM fluid and should I have it re-done at a honda dealer/do it myself with OEM fluid.

there's no such thing as OEM fluid... PS fluid is PS fluid

if u think they used crappy fluid, just suck out the fluid from the reservoir and add ur own fluid.. do this every week for 3-4 weeks and everything in the system should be replaced

Ok, well I know theres a huge battle over OEM Coolant so I didn't know if its the same for the power steering lol.

If not I don't really want to worry about it I have enough on my plate right now with a new place lol

Actually Honda P/S units need OEM fluid, its not the same as other cars. Most cars use the red transmission fluid and is changed every 30k. Honda's don't have a service interval for their fluid and it's only changed if you have steering problems. So the fluid Honda uses, should be used for the car.

I don't see how they could have changed your P/S fluid instead of your oil anyways...

i think the shop the the PS fluid change on top of the oil change

i've used non-OEM fluid in all 3 of my cars and no issues... as long as u change it when it becomes dark, u'll be fine

I'd go on the safe side and use Honda fluid.

Some pumps use Dex III ATF, but it turns into a nasty milk chocolate color when they mix with PS fluid.
