Well, it turns out the CEL code is 67 (Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold) and that cat itself is rattling. A few years back, I hit my cat and the shield needed replacing. This sounds exactly the same but I wasn't able to change the sound by touching the shield (with a broomstick). This leads me to believe the internal material is breaking apart.
You're probably thinking..."what about the Magnaflow?"...sorry...I looked online for the price of an OEM cat and have since decided on a high-flow cat instead. With the "savings" over the OEM cat not to mention install, I figured I'd also replace my exhaust system. After all, it's only a few more bolts.
From what I've found on 6thgen most comments have been positive about Magnaflow. I don't know if it's muffler only or catback...I've seen a few comments on each.
I'm curious what kind of sound to expect. It's not a tinny, annoying sound, is it? I can probably handle louder if it's not a cheap, tinny sound.
I don't have any performance modifications to my car other than no resonator and a K&N drop-in filter. I'd like to eventually go the turbo route. This is the main reason I'm getting the high-flow cat. From what I've read about turbo, you need high-flow or test pipe. For those with turbo, is this true?
What can I expect in performance change (good or bad) after adding the catback exhaust system?
From the dyno results they show on the site, it looks like torque and hp are minimally increased. Then again, all the results look the same so I don't know how accurate the charts are.
