It depends on your radar detector. Some have VG2 detectors which detect if theres a cop around you and that hes looking for people with radar detectors. But most high end radar detectors have an immunity to the VG2. When a cop shoots his radar/laser at you, your detector will go crazy before hand. Well, most high end ones will. I've been in my buddys car with a cobra and there was a cop not 500FT from us, and it was only goin off at like 4 which is the middle alert for the cobras.
I recommend looking up information, and learning how to use and operate your detector before using it, becuase every time it goes off, its not always a cop. Also try to pick out the radar bands used by cops in your area.

no doubt the v1 is good, but personally i think the passport is a better value, you get all the necessary (sp? im retarded right now, i just went through ****) features for 100 less, for 100 bucks i can live without arrows because i slow down no matter where its coming from.
i have an old $70 Cobra. very small one. it saved me everytime. never got a ticket in my whole life (knock on wood). but i think the only way to use a radar detector is only if you know how to use it. several of my friends who has radar detectors was like "wtf, i don't see no cops" but it was just a local store.
the best way for me to avoid being caught is, know your police cop cars. there are SEVERAL unmarked police cars here in Oklahoma. the only way to detect them is by their hubcaps. i can tell between a gangsta impala to an actual cop car. secondly, this is my strategie on the highway. when you see a car passes by you REALLY quick, i would follow them about 6 cars length away. supposely, that car will either brake when he sees a cop OR if his radar went off. by then, i will have more than enough time to slow down so the cop won't trigger the gun at me. this has worked for me several times.
for the times i'm almost caught, i would run into a neighborhood and wait about a whole 10 minutes. LOL! but yea it's true, i never got a ticket before. wish me luck so i can have a no-ticket record when i'm 21! (i just turned 20).

well using a radar detector is not very hard, it will go beep and if it is anything, slow down. cops in naples use every band, the only band ive never seen a cop use is x band. also, in naples we have about 30 different kinds of cop cars, and now they use any car they take. we have everything from 06 mustangs and srt8 chargers to old nissan minivans with out of state tags and about any car you can think of. also, your philosophy of following the other car doesnt always work. maybe if hes shooting laser hell get just the guy in front of you but if its radar hell get you because your easier then the guy in front of you.

we also have street racing teams formed by the cops primarily to fight street racing and they have riced out civics and stuff and all of this because all the damn srt4s in naples (naples dodge has got to have the nationwide record for most srt4s sold) keep crashing while street racing
i have a whistler 1655...its seems to work pretty good...catches x and k bands a lot in town....of course...and has the vg2 option...still not really firm on how to use it...i kno it is a to prevent the cops from knowing u have a detector but dont really use it...should i? i just use the city mode a lot...in the city
