Okay, so, I finally got the faceplate off. Damned thing. And chris, you were right. The bulbs are replaceable but they're UBER tiny and soldered in. IDK which ones light up the display but ive narrowed it down to four, lol. Now I just need a tiny soldering gun---wait a minute....

...I can just switch faceplates, right? I'll give that a try and see how that works. If it doesn't, then ill go back to trying to unsolder and re-solder the white bulbs from the junk radio into the new radio.

Never thought about just switching faceplates. I don’t know if the lock code circuitry is built into that board or if that’s elsewhere in the unit. Iif it is built into the faceplate circuit board, maybe you can just swap the faceplates and you would just need the code from the new faceplate. I am not sure.

Kinda interesting lol.

SUCCESS!! Ha ha!

Swapping faceplates worked. I know it doesn't exactly answer my OP but it still worked, lol.

So, for future reference, faceplates CAN be swapped. The code is radio-specific, not faceplate specific. :)

So if bulbs burn out in one faceplate, you can just straight swap another and that's it? Pretty cool that the board on the plate doesn't store the code info or whatever else. :afro:

I never use that one.

Yeah. The code stays with the radio. I swapped faceplate A onto radio B and input code B. Worked.

So did you just swap in a new face plate with all bulbs working or did you change the bulbs to a different color?

By the way I didn't know my code before and just called a local dealership. They just asked for the serial number and then told me the code over the phone.
Serial number is on the side of the radio or you can hold down certain buttons and it'll come up on the display.

My original radio had the stock white bulbs. The radio part quit working. I was given a second radio that worked but had blue bulbs in it. I put the white-bulbed faceplate from my old radio on the new, working, radio.
