FWIW I have packed a cylinder with manila rope at BDC and when it rotates up against the head it will hold the crank nicely, then you can apply all the leverage you want, so long as you've strapped the motor down to something substantial, like the bed of a pickup.

Then you just remove the rope back through the spark plug hole.

saying that makes me appreciate my 600 ft lb impact.

What about rope fibers that get left inside? Nice use of physics but doesn't sound like the safest most fool-proof way^

I'd recommend the crank pulley tool as has been linked, I just got one of these myself for my upcoming endeavors.

this we work if you plan on completely cleaning and rebuilding the engine and making sure you get all the little fibers out, but your still gonna need the tool when it comes time to tighten that bolt back up.

oh, well that sucks. my car was at like 105k and it worked for me. You are going to need to find a torch then. Go up to a welding/muffler shop. They should have a torch. Just ask them to torch it and break the bolt free, and then tighten it back up so you can drive it back home and take it back off.
