Silver Metallic hard to color match?

I'm considering buying an aftermarket painted rear bumper off of ebay. The place has tons of good reviews, so I think it's worth a shot for the price. Problem is - my color is satin silver metallic and when I searched "silver" and "color match" on the web I saw a lot of posts about silver metallic being one of the hardest or the hardest color to match. I don't expect a perfect match on my 7 year old car, but I don't want it to be an obvious color diff.

Anybody have any good/bad experience with this?

umm... when i painted my lip which is what i just recently did, i couldnt find Satin silver metalic so if u get a standard "silver metallic", its actually pretty dam close.. satin just gives it a smoother texture rather than standard silver.. the only way u can really tell with my car that its diff color is if my car is dirty but i think silver metallic is the closest ur gonna come unless u get PPG to mix a color for u

I had both my rear and front bumper painted. This was at a shop so I don't know how much effort they put into matching. I didn't even really notice until i put my rear lip on but it doesn't match. The shade is perfect but the bumper's flakes seem bigger and more "spread" out than the oem paint. Realize it did take me over 2 years to really notice so it's very minor, I don't think anyone would notice at all. Again, that's with my car in the shop, i don't know if they matched it or just sprayed the oem color.

Silver is one of the most difficult colors to match. Before I painted my car, there were four "silver metallics", and they were four completely different colors. Some paint shops can take a photo of your existing paint using a color calibrated camera and computer to 'match' the new paint, compensating for the effects of fading and oxidation, but it's never perfect.

Any color is hard to match...

Just too many variables.

Honda make weird shades of color so yes, it's hard to match the colors. also, if your bumper isn't OEM, the paint won't stick as well as OEM. FYI.

Especially that they make different variations for different markets.

Recently...I went to an auto body supply to get some SSM paint for my CL.

He was like which type of SSM paint do you got...?

Had to go back out to the door panel to verify which one...lol

I just want to say no matter where you go, you are never gonna get the Satin Silver metallic again if u paint ur car... the satin has a softer look to it and its very hard to match... the only way is to get the paint from honda

Which is exactly why I just went with Alabaster Silver and painted the whole damn car.
