Hello everyone,

car: 2001 honda accord lx

I have polk db651's in doors and rear (it has the tweeters mounted on the speaker), and a alpine type x, 12' powered by 1000watts, and some other alpine amp powering the polks with 65 watts.

so today im just driving along, bumping my music as usual, when all of all my speakers cut up but the sub is still hitting.

I notice this tinny sounding noise that resembles my music playing from the stock tweeter location located in the left and right corners of the front dash.

SO basically my speakers cut out and the stock tweeters are playing the highs, but sound like total **** and my sub is still hitting the low frequencies..

any ideas as to what the fck happened? What are those stock tweeters connected to? When i installed my aftermarket deck (kenwood kdc-138), and my polks, they handled all the highs and the stock tweeters did not work anymore i assumed. What would cause my speakers to cut out and my stock tweeters to start working again??

I am so confused.. I dont even know what the stock tweeters are connected to.. I am running rca wires to all my polks from an amp in the trunk.. what are powering the stock tweeters, my headunit?

I know I asked a lot of questions, but im just a little frustrated since my music sounds like **** from the stock tweeters.

If you have any information as to how to disable them, or just how to get my speakers to play again please let me know, what did you guys do to your stock tweeters when you installed your new speakers?

thanks in advance.

so you are running speaker wire from the amp directly to the speakers?

when i installed my front speakers and amp, i went behind the in-dash unit and cut and capped the speaker connections, front and rear.

i think this is why they are playing, since the tweeters hook into the stock mids somewhere.

id recommend that you cap off all speaker connections that arent being used on the kenwood/adapter harness side...dont mess with the accord side of the wiring.

yeah, tweeters are being powered off of the deck and will continue to do so until you disconnect them.

you're noticing them because your amp is cutting out. Your amp could be cutting out for a lot of different reasons. Is the amp off when you lose sound, or is it still on? If its off, then you could have a loose power, ground, or remote wire. If the amp is still on, then you are losing signal either from the output on your headunit, or at the amp side.

You have a lot of different things to check potentially, and to narrow it down you need to provide more info about the circumstances when it happens, and how it is hooked up (RCA outputs from the headunit, or line-out converter?)

ill throw this in too...in my old car, my sound cut out from the dash unit, but the sub on the amp kept playing.

found out one of the speakers had moved, and a terminal was touching metal. just something to think about...grounds are beast sometimes...
