subs cutting out

yeah i had da feeling that the 10ga was way to small i am going to the guy that instaled it and tell him that he needs to change it its strange bc he needs put a bigge guage in

Pleae change to a larger gauge wire.
The LAST thing you want to happen is the wire covering to start to melt and exposing the bare wire.
If that happens get ready for a fire

yeah thanks guys i went to the shop that instaled everything and he is saying the the sub and amp arnt matched right so thats why its cutting out? anyone know anythin about that he is saying that the 10ga wire is fine to use

1) sub and amp aren't matching right which is the reason why it's cutting out?......WTF LOL

2) 10 gauge (speaker) wire is ok to use when going from the amp to the speaker(s) or H/U to the speaker(s)
10 gauge wire is NOT recommended for the power or ground wire for the amp.
Depending upon how many watts you're using I would recommend nothing less than a 6 gauge power/ground wire

Sounds like you should shy away from that store

1.) Subs and amps don't have to match... that doesn't make any sense.

Print that out and show it to him, then call him an ****ing moron.

Your 10AWG wire can only handle about 100WRMS.

You need to figure out what that amp is rated for in RMS watts and the lowest resistance your subs can be wired.

10 gauge might be okay, we have no idea what amp you are using, but even if it is passable it's not going to leave you any headroom for the future.

my guess is when he said they aren't matched up, meant the amp was too small for the subs. if the amp is putting out **** power, and you want it loud, and are cranking up the gain to try and make a 50 watt amp push out like a 500 watt amp, then that could easily be making it overheat or go into protect

would an amp go into protection or just turn off FIRST if it sees like a 2 ohm load? dont know

we also dont know what kind of subs hes got...they could be DVC wired to a low resistance...

not like im questioning you cody lol...just throwing ideas out there.

s far as I know.
A an would go into protect mode for one of teh following reasons

1) overheating
2) fuse pops
3) inproper current (if you accidentally touch the negative with the positive or the remote)

There maybe others, but I believe these aer the most common

My amp and subs are both 4Ohm, but I have them wired at 2Ohm and it doesn't go into protect. The only time I've gotten it to go into protect it by turning it up too much with the gain up.

is your amp 2ohm stable? mine says its not (and i dont doubt it). well my dual 4 ohm sub is wired to 8ohms so i dont have to worry about that.
