Re: FRE$H NHBP. **Update 4/5**

Waiting for the paint to "cure" before getting clear bra on. Errrr. I've heard 1 month, 3 days, 2 weeks. Don't know what to believe.

It's getting baked in the sun right now. :coffee:

Paint these days are much durable compared to back then. It is now baked in a paint booth and after the paint is not tacky anymore they will start to wetsand it and polish it already. I would recommend talking to the painter that painted your lip to see how long he recommends letting it gas out.

The painter will know best because he is knowledgeable about his paint products, and most likely experienced enough as well. If i had to play it safe, I would wait one month before applying any sealant or wax on top of it.

I asked him before I had him paint it and he said it only takes 3 days to cure. But it's been painted since monday so it's been 5 days. I'm just going to play it safe as I won't have time to get a clear bra til late next week anyway so I think 2 weeks to cure is sufficient enough?

And to let it "gas out" does that mean if you can't smell that fresh paint fume/smell anymore, then it's all gassed out and cured? Before I let it sit out in the sun earlier today, it still smelled like fresh paint. After letting it sit in the sun for a good 3 hours or so, I noticed the smell reduced by quite a lot. And there's no harm in letting it bake in the sun right?

When he says it only takes 3 days to cure it means that's when the paint will be fully strengthened and will not be as easily scratched or stained.

I do not have any knowledge of the process that goes with getting a clear bra installed.

I'm going to "assume" the shop uses water based paint now because that's what the shop I currently work for uses anyways. I talked to the painters before about this and they recommend one to two weeks should be more than sufficient time to enable paint off gassing and curing.

Thanks for the help, Lemmie. And yeah, it's water-based paint. From what I've read, paint should harden and adhere with the lip/bumper before applying clear bra or when it comes time to remove it, it might peel off the paint as well. I've also heard of paint lifting while people are installing the clear bra. Guess they didnt give it enough time to harden. That's what I'm concerned about.

Yes, you are right about paint might peel off on "plastic" parts when recently painted. Even though the painters use adhesion promoter for plastic, and metal, paint does not bond as well to plastic "compared" to metal.

Sorry if I missed this somewhere, but if you don't mind me asking, how much did the guy charge you to clearbra the lip?

I got a quote from supposedly the best clear bra installer in the state for $175 + tax, just to get a measure of how much I should expect to pay elsewhere. And of course, this is on the high-end for pricing as they mostly do exotic cars. I was quoted by a local shop for $130.

I think around $100 would be more reasonable for a spoiler, tbh. Have you gotten any quotes?
