Re: Two swap or not to swap

So here is the situation I am in. I recently purchased a 1999 Accord (4 cyl)...This made me wonder about a manual transmission swap. A friend of mine has a 91 Accord he is willing to sell me that has the transmission I think I need and most, if not all of the other components I need to do the swap.

Trans will work, nothing else will.

...

Surprised that it would......but since nothing else will, that would be pointless.

Thanks for the clarification, CB.

I'm 17, but I would consider myself very handy with many people who would be willing to help me. My grandpa has a shop he would let me use that has any tool I need available to me. This is going to be a summer project, something to do while its 110* outside here in Az.

Also, the transmission is a H2A5 and I believe my motor is a F23A, I can verify this tomorrow morning.

PM me for help with the swap if you need. I live in the West valley (Surprise). About an hour from you. I swapped my AT to MT a few years ago. I am an ASE certified mechanic with more than enough tools to handle a 5spd swap.

And? You have done more work than me which gives you more experience which gives you more confidence. Isn't it true that without working on something it is almost impossible to gain experience? I have all kinds of experience with things like rc cars and computers, mostly self taught with help from the internet and some guidance from people who know what they are doing. I know neither of those things is a car, but it does give me prior knowledge of how to work on things in general. I enjoy projects that require me to learn new things.

Also, I know I am going to need much more than the transmission. I am going to put together a parts list after school today and see what I will be getting with the 91 Accord I am buying and what else I am going to need.

I never have understood people trying to discourage others from trying new things (unless we are talking about drugs). I guess its the people who think something like this would be a walk in the park until they find out all the work that goes into it, I'm not one of those people.

My point was its going to be a difficult task and you may want the help of someone with more equipment and the knowledge. From your previous posts it just seemed like you didn't grasp the complexity of this project. Not trying to discourage you at all

To the text you quoted, I am pretty sure more than just the transmission that will fit. I am going to take as much out of the 91 as I can and from what I have read so far all of this should work:

5 speed transmission
5 speed cv axles
5 speed starter
master cylinder
slave cylinder
hydro clutch lines
clutch pedal assembly
manual brake pedal
shifter assembly

I am going to need the Fly wheel, a clutch kit, and a manual ECU (unless the one out of the 91 will work) along with some other mic parts.

Is there anything else necessary I am missing? I will probably grab a manual cluster just to make my life easier also.

Will do!

I understand that, and I am pretty excited for it to be honest. I am not going to start tearing apart my car until summer, so that gives me 2 1/2 months to figure out exactly what I am going to need and how its all going to go down. I am not going to just tear my car apart with no knowledge and hope everything goes smoothly.

What eng does this other car have? F22?

I doubt many of the parts you listed will fit. The starter should, but you should go with master, slave, lines, shifter and axles. from 98 -02 accord. New is best. i have a manual ecu from a f23 with lev emissions (49 state) that could sell you. I also have a cheap f23 ebay header you can have for $20. No need for manual clutster. save the money for a new clutch and flywheel.

The 91 has an F22. As for the ECU, I will shoot you a PM once I get a hold of the 91.

buy it, there's plenty of meat on the bone for making a profit, that's pretty cheap if all the car is there. i bet you can use the clutch resevior and a couple other pieces besides the tranny, then sell the extras to pay for what you dont have

My thoughts exactly. The car is all there and it runs, so I am guessing I can recoup most of the $500 without any issue. I would drive it instead, but it needs a paint job, tires, and a few other things and I just can't justify spending the money to get it to where I would want it.
