hmm ok then hotshot, well you've had threads on here locked simply for wanting to talk about street racing and other brilliant ideas as such. You didn't say anything about canyons in this thread, but I know who you've hung out with from on here...and he's definitely a canyon racing poser from SoCal, so please :lawl:

you've bothered to make a butthurt voting thread all about me, which was promptly locked, but not before a good handful of people saw you for how pathetic you are.

you've spent pages on end arguing with people who have been on this site a lot longer than you and know far more about what they are talking about, yet just can't seem to accept what they say and have to be all defensive about the fact you think we all couldn't be more wrong.

do you notice the pattern of you, you, you yet?

you really love noting those fact charts straight from Honda as well, because typed numbers equate to physical evidence seen through eyesight and experience.

"herp derp, this number be larger than this number, therefore laws of physics!"

have I rounded you out as a person yet? Yes, and you're pretty terrible.

The gearing of the V-6 is definitely the worst thing about the car and I, like many, have wished it came in a 5-speed manual. But it doesn't, and to modify it in that way is difficult and an extra expense. 0-60 data is useful when comparing to other vehicles because 0-60 times are generally pretty easy to find. I would love if more data was readily available about every vehicle like the speed from 20km to 80km or something similar which would help you understand how it accelerates outside of actually driving it yourself.

I find the V-6 is "slower" from a dead stop than comparable engines but faster at higher speeds than comparable engines. (By comparable I mean similar year, power output, size and weight) The 3.0L V6 has a very nice low growl compared to the 2.3L I4 but I personally have never driven in a 6th gen I4 accord. I certainly assumed the V6 was faster.

From what I've read, the slow at low speeds, fast once you get going performance of the V6 is probably due to the type of V-TEC used and the adjustments that were made to increase fuel economy as well as the ratios of the 4 gears. But I do not thoroughly understand the V-TEC.
If the I4 was truly faster I would be surprised.

What I do know is that on the highway I have been pleasantly surprised with what the V6 is capable of and have been able to beat many other cars such as BMWs that cost much more. From a dead stop it is merely adequate but I still like my V6 accord over the alternatives that I have looked into.

One reason I've always assumed the 4 cylinder accord was inadequate was because one time on the highway going up north I came across one with a large, shiny, modded exhaust pipe sticking out the back racing down the road. I got his attention and he sped off in front of me. I followed suit and very quickly overcame his car. When he caught back up to me a minute later, because I had slowed down, he once again floored it and I followed behind and let me tell you I had no problem passing it by, it was no contest. Finally he caught up a second time and seemed kind of pissed off and he floored it for the 3rd time. Once again, I was catching up quite fast, when flame came out of his exhaust pipe. And I think the sound scared him as he quickly slowed down and I never saw him again. We both had one passenger and I had luggage in the trunk and back seats. And I'm sure my passenger was twice the weight as his.

Seeing flame come out the back, I must admit. was awesome. lol
But I would assume that the I4 wouldn't stand a chance against the V6 if they were already both going along at 50-60km down the road. I'm sure the I4 would be left in the dust. And, in my opinion, that is where the speed/power most often comes into play. But I have some small doubts now and will try to take one for a test drive sometime and see how it actually performs first hand.

Just my opinion, but if your really a stickler for top speed and 0-60 results. A stock V6 Honda Accord probably isn't the car for you. They aren't really known for their performance, and not only that, but the V6's aren't even significantly faster than the I4's unless they are modified. If I'm not mistaken, the V6 model is only like 0.4 seconds faster 0-60 than the I4 model.

I am not looking for the fastest 0-60 times, you could say I was curious to know. Why would I, or anyone, buy a mid-size sedan for its drag racing characteristics??? I am a fan of the look and feel of the Accord and actually am interested in modding the car somewhat.. once I get one with a rust free body (The rust isn't my fault, as it was handed down to me through the family) New intake, exhaust, catback, filters, maybe an ECU tweak. I don't know cuz I haven't started yet. One small thing the accord has that I appreciate though I never have to deal with it, is rear leg room. I hate having my legs cramped in a small back seat and don't wish it on my passengers. One thing I would change about the accord would be to put in a newer transmission preferably an automatic 6 speed. I'll save the manual for my 2005 BMW 330xi that I do not own :( lol.. yet.:boohoo:

The bull**** shoutbox lives.

If the I4 was truly faster I would be surprised.

Why? Read through the last few pages, the posts that are relevant anyway, they explain why you shouldn’t be surprised. The last I read, the 5spd is faster off the line, but in a quarter mile the V6 would catch up and pass it. The only thing wrong with the V6 6GA is the slushbox Honda gave it. If it had something even remotely decent, it would trounce the i4, 5spd or otherwise. This is why even with just a tranny swap the J30 turns into an absolute beast.

Perhaps you need to go test drive a car that is actually fast, to actually see how slow a 6GA is.

What I do know is that on the highway I have been pleasantly surprised with what the V6 is capable of and have been able to beat many other cars such as BMWs that cost much more.

Did they know they were racing you? What models?

The way I understand it, the higher the rolling speed, the better chance the V6 has.

If you want the car to actually be faster, bolt-ons do nothing but make sound. Don’t bother doing anything but a transmission swap if you want to see a true performance gain. If you are just wanting to modify a car to learn and have fun, have at it.

This is what RussianRed was talking about earlier. The site does not support street racing, and stories like this are what will earn you ridicule. You can try to convince yourself you have ensured that all the variables necessary to be present for safe performance driving are covered, but the truth is that even though there is always a certain level of unpredictability, tracks were made for performance driving for a reason. For the good of yourself and your loved ones, take it to a track where you’re in a controlled environment and wearing a helmet. We can’t stress this enough.

Besides, and though it is a moot point, racing in an auto is pointless imo.

I am not sure how to do multiple quotes and such so I will just reply how I can.

To:RedRyder
Firstly I am getting pretty tired of hearing how this car or that car is slow. What the heck are you comparing it to? How fast must a car go before it is not considered to be slow? The Accord certainly has ample power driving out on public roads and I agree that the 4-speed auto holds the car back more than anything. IMO anything over 230HP starts to become excessive for a mid-size sedan in this weight class, and is much more sport. But the trend today is to have excessive power that will rarely if ever be actually used by most of the people who are buying the car.

This is the kind of thing I'm sick of hearing: "Oh, you're car only reaches 60mph in 8 seconds from a dead stop. That's so slow!" Are you kidding?!

Yes, I assumed the people I mentioned knew we were comparing power or I would not have mentioned it. You could call it racing but I wouldn't consider it so. As I always let off before I reach any kind of speed I consider to be risky. The BMWs I cannot recall what they were as I didn't know much about them at the time. Probably 3 series and I remember one was a 330 anymore specific I cannot be other than I am pretty sure, thinking back, that they were all 4th gen, E46.

You really think an upgraded intake and exhaust would do little to nothing to the performance of the car? I don't really believe that to be true. And certainly do not want it to be. I'd love to put in a new transmission. It's the one thing I hate about my accord but I am not close to experienced or rich enough to undertake a tranny swap.

Lastly your comment about racing in an auto being pointless. How is it pointless? Is that any different from saying: Racing a stock car is pointless when you could be driving a race car. Or, Racing a 4 cylinder is pointless when you could be racing a 4 cylinder turbo. It just seems like a strange thing to say.
Having manual control of the clutch doesn't make the difference between a race and a cruise IMO. And manuals are going the way of the dinosaur slowly. I'm sure manuals will exist in some form but the move towards auto is coming fast and Automatic transmission of today are now becoming more efficient than manual shifting. But I won't deny a standard transmission can be very enjoyable and gives you more of a feeling of control.
