transmission flush question???

People... I run an auto repair shop and work on all kinds of cars. I also have Mitchell on Demand and Alldata software to confirm fluid types & lebel on just about every car.

The 6GA Accords use motor oil. Some older Hondas use gear oil but it's still optional on some.

FYI: My H23 runs on 1 Qt. 10w30 & 1 Qt. of Lucas Oil Stabalizer.

so wait the transmission drain plug is next to the oil one? And I have to change a gasket or something? And it be don't like an oil change simple?

That diagram oo_phoung posted is showing the passenger side of the tranny. If you take off the front right wheel you'll see it. No gaskets involved. Just take out the drain plug and the fill plug, drain, put drain plug back in, and fill until fluid comes out the fill hole. You can buy yourself a fill tube that screws onto the fluid bottle. They make it a lot easier.

BTW: That picture you posted on the previous page is the engine oil dipstick. Only AT has a trans dipstick. If you have a manual trans, you don't have a MTF dipstick. I've heard of people using motor oil or gear oil, but supposedly Honda MTF is all super magigal and stuff. When I change my MTF, I'll probably use Redline MTF though. I never, ever buy parts or fluid at a dealership unless it is absolutely necessary. Dealerships are a huge ripoff.

Huge ripoff is right. I bought some tranny fluid today 5.90 a quart!

and id like to argue that. on ondemand5 it specifically tells you this:

Recommended Fluid
On CVT transmissions, use genuine HONDA CVT fluid only. On all other models, use HONDA Premium Formula ATF. Use of non-Honda ATF can affect shift performance.

If you want to run basic you can run 10w30, wont hurt anyting, neither will MTF, we actually used to use 10W30 until honda came out with special blend MTF, I am going to be putting GM syncromesh fluid in mine, a friend of mine has an 06 Si which is very common for a 3rd gear hard to get in gear complaint, he ran syncromesh in it and problems gone, honda just came out with a Service Bulletin saying the trans needs to have a different 3rd gear assembly put in, hes had syncromesh in it for 2 years now, says it shifts like butter....


Also noticed talked about flushing transmission fluid, Honda DOES NOT! reccommend flushing, just drain and fill, (that would have to do with automatics)
For autos
4cyl- approx 2.5qts ATF
6cyl-approx 3qts ATF

Manual Trans
4cyl only- 3qts MTF/ 10W30 will use approx 2.5 or 2.75qts.
