transmission issues

when my car isnt warmed up at all when i shift into reverse from park you hear a loud slam, the automatic gears d3 and d4 shift too rough for my liking (solenoid or some sort of sensor issue?) but if i shift my automatic manually i can drive the car no shifting issues… should i just accept my fate and look towards a manual swap or start diagnosing and fix it while ahead

Your trans is on the way out. To prolong the life of the tranny, what I used to do is park the car in N, hand brake up, shut off car, then put the trans in P. I used to start it in Neutral as well and the go to D instead of straight P>D. That used to help reduce the jolt/shudder from the trans.
