Tune up?

Hi i just have few questions, my car is sitting at 197,000 km atm, and as far a i know, when it hit 200k km , i gotta go for a tune up. how much does it usually cost? should i just order the parts online?(ie. timing belt, spark plugs if needed to be changed) and just bring it to a shop?

If you can't tell during your stay here, we don't really bring cars to shops for the most part. If you do do it at a shop, it's best they use their own parts usually, some shops have problems with outside parts because of warranty and profit loss.

If you can find a shop that is willing to install customer parts, and you can't put them on yourself, then yes you can do what you propose. Cost you will have to find out yourself. It can be high if your timing belt and water pump have not been replaced yet.. up to $600. Same rules apply to those parts as well.

A tune up will cost you around $300 and it DOES NOT include replacing your timing melt and/or water pump. They have different intervals when they need to be replaced, weather or not your's have been replaced i have no idea obviously but with that mileage most likely they have. I personally buy my own parts because i dont trust the parts shops use for tune ups, for example spark plugs are sensitive on our cars and using the wrong plugs can result in a missfire in your engine.

srry for kinda thread jacking but....somebody told me that there r sum spark plugs that have 4 lil hooks on em as opposed to the 1 hook they all come with for more of a spark is this true?

The word TUNE UP is relative, and variable to what your car needs. You need to figure out what needs to be done first.. If you blindly go in and ask for that, they will replace everything even some stuff that probably didn't need to be touched, and charge you $$$ for it!

Go in with knowledge, and if the shop allows, bring your own genuine Honda parts. My $0.02. If you car hasn't had it's timing maintenance done (some cars don't even though mileage is high - they just get lucky) then THIS WOULD BE part of a tune up.. But a pricey part.


Bkz - If you're talking about Bosch Platinum +4, then stay away from those, search for the reasons why, it's been covered.

I recommend staying away from any aftermarket spark plugs period. OEM (NGK) plugs online cost $70 for v6 and obviously cheaper for the I-4, save yourself a headache and spend the extra 40 bucks to buy the plugs that were made for and work best with your engine.

they don't do ****. electricity chooses the path of least resistance. so the fact that it has four ground straps doesn't do ****. its gonna go to whichever one has the least resistance. only thing they're good for is that the last a little longer. That being said I would only put NGK v-power's in my car.
